ok. finished the spread. took some elements from gen’s recommendations and added a pretty big pull quote to fill up the space and sort of explain the dude in the illustration.

now trying to blend the styles of the intro/jump so it feels like the same article - added brush strokes to the boxes on the intro. and fixed the a’s in BAWA so they were a little different.

no this isn’t finished, but it’s a redesign of the mewithoutyou jump (click mewithoutyou on the right) but it’s just one of the ideas i’ve had but dont know what to do with but makes things a lot more interesting than what i had before.
another redesign of the mewithoutyou intro, this time with a different headline and back to the original font i used. i like this much better than the others, and the grittiness of the font reflects the rawness of the lifestyle/photo. still… feedback appreciated.
here’s a variant without the black bar on the side. the space in the middle accounts for the fold in the page.

new feature spreads
so i just took the first spread i had and modified it slightly with different text faces and photos. kept it relatively consistent - tonight i’m going to try and move in a completely different direction and probably chuck one of the photos. here’s five:
